The second trimester is drawing to a close, and we did a lot these few months. Other than practicing for the American Chatter Box Christmas Recitation Contest this year, we had fun doing in-class activities.
Hoku Junior students have been improving their phonics and reading skills along with re-writing and re-telling their own “Once Upon a Time” stories by changing stories they have read before in class. The students in the science and math classes have fun learning about the different fruits that grow in nature and what they look like inside.
Hoku Senior students have had their own presentations in class when we were studying about mass media. They worked in teams of two or three to report about current events. Friday’s science and math class experimented with clay and objects as we learned about imprints and fossils. Other fun activities would be how other countries celebrated Christmas in Geography class on Saturdays. It is a very valuable lesson to understand that a holiday like Christmas can be celebrated differently depending where you come from, or not celebrated at all because of a different country’s beliefs.
The aim for all our classes in our Hoku program is to mentally nourish and educate our students to become more internationally minded people.
This week, the students in Hoku Senior will be given their Report Cards to take home and show their parents and guardians. So, please remember to sign or stamp them to be returned on the first day at ACB on January 11
